What is CLAT?

The full form of CLAT is the Common Law Admission Test.

CLAT is a national-level entrance exam, which is organized every year by the Consortium of National Law Universities. Through this entrance exam, one can get admission to 22 National Law Universities and many private schools of the order.

CLAT exam is conducted in two levels- 

  1. CLAT UG (Under- Graduate Programme)

CLAT UG is a graduation-level course, the entrance exam for which you can appear after passing class 12th.

  1. CLAT PG (Post-Graduate Programme)

CLAT PG which is a postgraduate level course. Only those candidates can give the entrance exam, who have passed graduation from any other train.

Eligibility for CLAT 2023

If you are thinking about giving CLAT exam then it is mandatory for you to be eligible first-

  1. CLAT Exam can be given only by the candidates who have passed the 12th class with 45% marks from any recognized school.
  2. There is a reservation of 5% for Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes i.e. currently those who have secured 40% marks can apply for the exam from this category.
  3. There is no upper age limit fixed for appearing in the exam.  You can give this exam till any age you want.
  4. Reservation has been arranged in this examination so that backward-class students can also get the opportunity to enroll.
  5. It is mandatory for Aarti to be an Indian who gives this exam.

CLAT Exam Form Fees 2023

If any student wants to give this exam then at the time of filling the form ₹ 4000 has to be paid as application fee.  

On the other hand, if you are a reserved category student i.e. Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe, then you have to pay ₹ 3000.  Students can also pay this fee online with the help of a debit card, credit card, or net banking.

CLAT Exam Pattern 2023

A total of 150 questions are asked in the CLAT exam, which is of 2 hours duration. One mark is given for each question and 0.25 negative marks are deducted for wrongly answering a question. 

In this, questions of 50 marks are asked for Law, 50 marks for General Knowledge, 40 for Logical Reasoning, 40 from English, and 20 for Mathematics. This entrance test is taken on an OMR sheet.

The questions asked in this exam are generally asked to know the skills of the students. The syllabus of this exam is mainly divided into five parts.  By which you are asked questions-

  5. Quantitative Techniques

CLAT Syllabus 2023 (Full syllabus for CLAT 2023)

The CLAT exam mainly consists of questions from five subjects, thereby focusing on evaluating the understanding and reasoning skills and abilities of the candidates.

The syllabus is as follows-

English Language Syllabus for CLAT 2023

This section will contain passages of about 450 words each.

There are a series of questions after each route. In which candidates have to respond by displaying their understanding and language skills.

  • English Vocabulary – Antonyms, Synonym and Analogies
  • English Proficiency – Idioms and Phrases,One Word substitution, Sentence improvement, Rearrangement of Sentence in Paragraph, Rearrangement of words in sentence, Fill in the blanks and cloze test.
  • English Usage Errors – Common Errors, Spotting Errors, Inappropriate Usage of Words and Spelling Mistakes, Use of correct words.

CLAT 2023 General Knowledge & Current Affairs Syllabus

This section consists of passages of up to 450 words each. You can answer many questions by reading the information obtained from Marg news journalism listeners and other non fiction writing. 

Questions also include legal information or information relating to or relating to money.

Under this section, questions can also be asked about events of National and International importance, Current events in the field of economics, Science Technology, Sports, Individuals and Static GK and Minimum areas Books and Authors.

CLAT 2023 Legal Aptitude Syllabus

In this section candidates will be expected to read a passage of approximately 450 words.  

The passages may relate to factual situations or scenarios involving legal matters, public policy questions, or an ethical philosophical book.

Under this there will be some major topics like International Law, Criminal Law, Indian Constitution, Legal Terms, Legal Maxims, Family Law Contracts etc.

CLAT 2023 Logical Reasoning Syllabus

The Logical Reasoning section will consist of a series of short passages of approximately 300 words each. Each passage will be followed by one or more questions.

Reasoning Test – Series test, Relationship test, Alphabet test, Ranking test and Time Sequence test, Direction and Distance test, Analogy test, Classification test, Coding Decoding test, number test.

Logic Tests – Statement Conclusion and Statements Action, Statement Assumption, Statements Arguments.

CLAT 2023 Quantitative Techniques Syllabus

This section will consist of brief sets of facts or propositions, graphs, or numerical information. This will be followed by a series of questions.

You will need to find information from such passages, and graphs and apply mathematical operations to such information.

  • Arithmetic – Number System, Survey and Indices, Square Roots, Fractions, Decimal HCF and LCM, Simplification Ratio and Average, Logarithm etc.
  • Commercial Mathematics – Interest, Percentage, Profit and Loss, Partnership, and Discount.
  • Mensuration – Area & Perimeter, Volume etc..
